Editor’s Note: In 2013, FACTS began to train speakers to provide the presentations we created to share the science of fertility awareness-based methods (FABMs) with medical professionals, students, and the public. Since our first training, we have equipped over one hundred speakers to share the FACTS in their universities, training programs, hospitals, clinics, and communities throughout the United States and internationally.

Since 2020, we have featured a FACTS-trained speaker monthly to highlight the diversity and expertise of our talented pool of presenters. Our speaker training program helps us fulfill our mission to educate medical professionals and students about the science behind fertility awareness. We equip them with accurate information so their patients benefit from a medical community that is well informed about FABMs.

Our series continues with Lisa Jurski, PT, a physical therapist and Creighton Model FertilityCare practitioner. We are grateful for her support and contributions to the success of our webinar and speaker programs.

Meet Lisa Jurski, PT

Lisa Jurski has provided fertility care for women for eleven years. In 2003, she discovered the Creighton Model FertilityCare System (CrMS). She and her husband went through the year-long training and were grateful to gain a better appreciation for their fertility. Since then, they have used the method to postpone pregnancy, achieve pregnancy (in the first cycle of “trying”), and to address the underlying causes of infertility and recurrent miscarriage.

Having learned about this method and used it successfully in her personal life, she felt inspired to bring the Creighton Model to her community in Chicago. She recognized this information was essential to enable women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health and fertility. In 2009, she trained as a certified FertilityCare practitioner with this method. Since that time, she has taught 780 women and couples how to chart and use this FABM.

As a FertilityCare practitioner, Ms. Jurski teaches women how to chart their cycles and learn to identify their fertile and infertile times. With this knowledge, they can use the method to either achieve or avoid pregnancy, and also to identify signs of health through charting.

Educating the Next Generation

Ms. Jurski is grateful to have attended a FACTS speaker training in an effort to educate the next generation of medical professionals. Feeling empowered by the training, she notes, “I ran with it.” She finds it meaningful to interact with and teach residents about modern FABMs. She hopes she’s been able “to inspire a few along the way to consider incorporating FABMs into their future practice.”

At FACTS, we greatly appreciate Ms. Jurski’s enthusiasm and her personal and professional expertise with these methods. She is an engaging speaker and always willing to share the science of fertility awareness with our students. As our executive director, Dr. Marguerite Duane notes, “Lisa’s passion for promoting fertility awareness education is paramount to the work we do at FACTS. Whether through her role as a speaker or as a preceptor in our elective, she always focuses on the evidence for these methods and is incredibly professional in her interactions. We are fortunate to have her as part of our team.”

Having gone through this journey into using FABMs for herself and in her marriage, she encourages women and couples to “get educated about what is out there” in the growing field of fertility awareness. She emphasizes the importance of learning from trained instructors and reputable sources like FACTS. “You can’t make educated decisions about what to do when you don’t know what your options are!”

She appreciates how FACTS brings together national and international experts in fertility awareness. “It is inspiring to work with so many like-minded individuals who are doing so much good work in the world for women and women’s health. At a time when we can feel so very isolated and alone, FACTS has been trying to foster an environment of education and truth with transparency around reproductive health.”

Become a FACTS Preceptor!

Are you trained in natural or fertility awareness based methods (FABMs) of family planning? Do you want to share your knowledge and experience with integrating FABMs into women’s health care with future health professionals? If so, we’d love to have you on our team of FACTS Preceptors!

Matching interested students with you so they may observe how you incorporate FABMs into your practice, may influence how they practice medicine in the future. If FACTS would like to place an interested student with you, we will contact you in advance to confirm your availability and the best contact information to share with the student. Signing up as a preceptor does not guarantee students will work with you, but it does provide us with a list of willing professionals should a student or resident in your area seek out a preceptor.
