Fertility Appreciation Collaborative to Teach The Science

April 1, 2015

Who is FACTS?

FACTS was founded in 2010 by two family physicians, Dr. Marguerite Duane and Dr. Bob Motley, in order to help spread evidence based information about fertility awareness based methods (FABMs) amongst their colleagues. Since then, many more people have joined FACTS, which is a collaborative project under the umbrella of the Family Medicine Education Consortium or FMEC. Healthcare professionals make up the majority of our group, including family physicians, obstetrician/gynecologists, pediatricians, midwives, nurses, nurse practitioners, residents, and students. We also have a number of researchers, natural family planning and fertility awareness educators, and women and men who use each of the various methods.

We are a diverse group of individuals united by a common goal: to share the best evidence available with health care colleagues so they can educate women and men about their fertility, empower them to make more informed choices about family planning, and enable women to collaborate with their physicians to better monitor and manage their reproductive health.

FACTS Team 2014

We also have members who are women’s health advocates and promote these methods as a way to empower women, and others who offer these methods in faith-based settings. Our members come from Oregon to Arizona to Florida and New York with solid representation from the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic States. We are proud to have experts and/or leaders representing each of the evidence-based FABMs.

To ensure our continued success, all members are expected to support our mission and vision and to abide by the Principles of Dialogue instrumental to fostering relationships and deeper understanding within groups and organizations. Our Executive Team, led by Dr. Duane, steers our work. Larry Bauer, CEO of the FMEC, serves as an ex officio member.
