Dr. Sarah Makarewicz is a Family Medicine Resident from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She completed her Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physiology in 2020 and completed her MD in 2025, both at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. In medical school, she was frustrated that contraception and IVF were emphasized as solutions to any cycle/fertility problems, while fertility awareness methods were taught as ineffective solutions for avoiding/achieving pregnancy and treating infertility.
Searching for answers, in September 2023, she attended FACTS’ in-person conference in Minneapolis, MN and was inspired by the multitude of Restorative Reproductive Medicine (RRM) professionals. The RRM approach of restoring reproductive health, rather than suppressing it, motivated her to join FACTS and learn more. Over the past 2 years as a FACTS Ambassador, she has written 3 FACTS blog posts, completed the FACTS 4-week medical school elective, and co-presented a FACTS poster at the 2024 IIRRM Congress in Vancouver, Canada. Discovering FACTS has been life-changing personally and professionally for her, and she hopes to pursue further training in RRM and earn certifications in Medical Management for Marquette, NeoFertility, and FEMM.
In her spare time, she loves going ice fishing with her husband, playing badminton with her mother, and challenging her sister to MarioKart Wii.
