Learn with FACTS
The Resident Elective explores the broad applications of modern fertility awareness-based methods (FABMs) and their role in pregnancy prevention, infertility, and women’s health. The content provides an introduction to FABMs and the biomarkers of the female cycle that people can learn to observe and chart everyday. Residents will learn how this daily diary of the external signs of the female cycle reflect the internal hormonal changes that occur. This information aids in family planning as well as management of a range of health issues in an effort to restore the normal function of the female cycle.
Expanding on our Student Elective, the Resident Elective can be tailored to each participant’s unique needs and experience, depending on background knowledge and availability. Medical residents at any accredited program are encouraged to learn more.
Be prepared as a future medical professional to present ALL options and to support each patient’s ultimate decision based on their needs, lifestyle, and values and your clinical experience and medical knowledge.

Upon completion of this elective, students will be able to:
The Resident Elective consists of both didactic and clinical components. Ideally, this elective is longitudinal, taking place over the course of one year. However, a shorter elective of at least two weeks can be accommodated. The expected time commitment is approximately 25-25 hours/week, depending on the number and type of clinical observations scheduled.
The didactic component consists of online, asynchronous content and live case studies included in our multi-part CME course. Residents are required to complete one CME part for each week of the elective. For each part, credit is earned for successful completion of the knowledge assessments with a score of 75% or higher.
Residents are encouraged to attend the CME office hours held monthly from September to May to discuss patient cases, receive tips to incorporate restorative reproductive medicine (RRM) and FABMs into clinical practice, and pursue opportunities to connect and learn alongside other residents and practicing clinicians.
The clinical component matches residents to preceptors – physicians or clinicians trained in FABMs who incorporate FABMs into his or her practice. Residents work closely with their preceptors to see patients, assist in clinical care, and develop content for scholarly activity, such as grand rounds, research presentations, or case studies. Depending on the practice and preceptor, visits are completed in person, virtually, or both.
Residents must be a FACTS member to participate in this course. The cost for resident level membership is $25. Visit our Membership page for more information on joining FACTS.
Credits are earned through the didactic component of the elective (CME parts). The AAFP has reviewed Fertility Awareness Based Methods for Family Planning and Restorative Reproductive Healthcare, and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 12/15/2024 to 12/15/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Each Part of the CME course is approved by the AAFP for up to 16 credits. Each residency program is different, so please work with your program to provide the necessary documentation to earn credit, if needed.
Residents are encouraged to participate in advanced medical training through FACTS in order to learn the protocols and treatment options that follow a restorative medical approach. Coupling this additional training with individualized mentorship from an assigned preceptor prepares the resident to have the skill set and expertise to use modern FABMs and restorative medicine in clinical practice.
