Since 2018, over 1,000 students have enrolled in our Student and Resident electives, Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FABMs) for Family Planning and Restorative Reproductive Women’s Healthcare. Beyond lectures and readings, the FACTS electives include clinical experiences and live case studies – both vital to learning how to implement FABMs into a medical practice.
FACTS is seeking FABM-trained physicians, clinicians, and educators to join our network of professionals to teach the next generation of medical and health professionals about fertility awareness-based methods and their impact.
As part of the FACTS Student and Resident Electives, we match our students with medical and health professionals who are trained in Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FABMs) to observe how they integrate these methods in their healthcare practice. This unique opportunity to introduce students to the full spectrum of options for family planning and women’s healthcare may influence how they practice medicine in the future!
As part of the Student Elective, participants experience 2-4 clinical observations over a two-week block. During the Resident Elective, residents work closely with their preceptor to see patients, assist in clinical care, and develop content for a scholarly activity, such as Grand Rounds, a research presentation, or case studies.
FACTS matches students with preceptors based on the preceptor’s preferences and availability. Depending on the practice and preceptor, visits are completed in person and/or via telemedicine. When FACTS is ready to place an interested student with you, our team will contact you in advance to confirm your availability and the best contact information to share with the student.
Although signing up as a preceptor does not guarantee students will work with you, it does provide us with a list of willing professionals should a student or resident request a preceptor in your area for in-person or virtual visits.
How do you improve the culture around women’s health? You create a demand for better care by demonstrating that research and science have more to offer, and then you train healthcare professionals to deliver it.
Being a FACTS case preceptor does exactly that. It’s about challenging the status quo in women’s health and equipping the next generation of clinicians to provide the high-quality care women deserve.

In addition to precepting, we also offer physicians, clinicians, and educators the opportunity to share patient cases during live case study discussions with the students and/or residents. The aim of these 60-minute sessions is for students to learn from experts who incorporate FABMs into their practice and to apply the knowledge they gain.
The sessions are scheduled for a total of 75 minutes, including 60 minutes for case study presentations and 15 minutes to address student questions. The case study portion includes two presenters taking 30 minutes each. As a case study presenter, your responsibilities include engaging students in their learning, guiding their understanding of FABMs, and answering their questions. A FACTS team member serves as the moderator for all case studies and helps facilitate student participation.
If you have an interesting patient case related to FABMs that is ideal for student learning, consider sharing it with our students!
We are changing the culture of medicine by educating current and future medical and healthcare professionals about the science of fertility awareness, but we can’t do this work without the partnership of professionals like you!
