The FACTS Speaker Series: In 2013, FACTS began to train speakers to provide the presentations we create specifically to share the science of fertility awareness based methods (FABMs) with medical professionals, students, and the public. Since our first training, we have equipped more than 90 speakers to share the FACTS in their universities, training programs, hospitals, clinics, and communities throughout the US and internationally.

In 2020, we will feature a FACTS-trained Speaker every month to highlight the diversity and depth of knowledge and expertise of our talented pool of speakers. Our series begins this week with Luis García, MD, a family physician who cares for the Spanish-speaking community of York, PA. Dr. García grew up learning about fertility awareness from his parents, who used it to teach “sex-ed.” Since then, he has had a passion for sharing the message of fertility awareness with friends and family as well as his patients.

This research review details a report published in 2018 titled, “Modern fertility awareness methods: wrist wearables capture the changes in temperature associated with the menstrual cycle.” The review was written by Anastasia G. Physician Attitudes and Perceptions Toward NFP: A Research Review

Physician Attitudes and Perceptions Toward NFP: A Research Review

This is a review of research published in 2010 in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology titled, “Natural Family Planning: Physicians’ Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice.” Learning about biomarkers of fertility that tell the story of what’s occurring hormonally inside her body provides information that can impact a woman’s health—even beyond its applications for family planning. For physicians, FABMs do triple duty as practical tools in family planning that also aid in the diagnosis and treatment of common conditions affecting women while providing ways for them to monitor their reproductive and general health.

Why FACTS Exists: A Research Study and Giving Opportunity

Why FACTS Exists: A Research Study and Giving Opportunity

Multiple studies have shown that fertility-related knowledge among the general public and medical trainees is quite low. Knowledge gaps have been found to be especially large regarding the effect of age on fertility and the extent to which lifestyle affects one’s fertility. In this post, medical student Joi Spaulding reviews a study published in 2017 in “Fertility and Sterility” focused on low fertility awareness among reproductive-age women and medical trainees.

Our Month of Giving campaign focused on giving medical students The Gift of Knowledge ends this week. Your support will help FACTS as we seek to bring accurate, up-to-date evidence-based information about FABMs to more medical professionals, women, and couples, and we thank you in advance for your support!
